No sales process. Unless you want one.

The prices above are the prices. Nothing is hidden behind a “request a quote” form, and there’s no demo you have to sit through to find out what MailRoute costs. Start your free trial entirely online and you may never need to talk to us at all.

Want a human first? A real person answers questions at any plan level before you commit. Enterprise customers get phone support and white-glove migration. Self-serve or hands-on, it’s your call.

What happens to your email if your mail server goes down

Every plan queues your mail. Store and forward is included at every tier, including Basics. When your server stops responding, MailRoute holds inbound mail instead of bouncing it and retries delivery for up to 15 days. This is the protection people look for under “backup MX” or “email spooling.” It needs no configuration and starts on its own. Your users can’t read that mail while the server is down — nothing is lost, it just waits.

Enterprise adds Email Continuity. Your team keeps working through the outage. Enterprise and Enterprise U.S. include Self-Healing Email Continuity: a rolling 30 days of clean mail, always-on, that users reach through webmail while your own server is offline. It isn’t triggered by the outage — it’s already in place, with no cold-start gap where recent mail is missing. That same 30-day store also lets you retrieve a delivered message a user deleted. Need a longer window? Upgrade to 60 days (+$1/user/month) or 90 days (+$2/user/month). How email continuity works →

To be precise about the boundary: Continuity is a rolling store of clean inbound mail, not a mailbox backup product. It won’t restore a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace mailbox to a point in time, and it isn’t long-term compliance archiving. What it does cover is the case most people are actually asking about — staying up during an outage, and getting a recent message back.

On Hosted Mail, we’re the mail server

Email Continuity exists to give you somewhere to read mail when your own server can’t serve it. When MailRoute hosts the mailbox, that’s the mailbox — webmail is standard on every Hosted Mail plan, and it reaches your full mail history rather than a rolling 30-day copy of it. Store and forward runs in front of it exactly as it does everywhere else, queuing inbound mail for up to 15 days. There’s no continuity add-on to buy on Hosted Mail because there’s no second server to fall back from.

One thing does work differently, and it’s worth knowing if you’re moving from a filtering plan: deleted mail. On Enterprise filtering, Continuity’s rolling store is also where an admin retrieves a message a user deleted. On Hosted Mail that message is in the user’s Trash, the same as any mail host — we don’t keep a separate copy to pull it back from.

Running an association or alumni program?

MailRoute Email Identity is a separate product with its own pricing — a flat monthly rate by member count, not per user — for giving every member a branded address without hosting mailboxes. See Email Identity pricing →

Every plan includes a free 30-day trial with full access. The table below compares the three filtering tiers. Hosted Mail plans add a 50GB IMAP mailbox, webmail, forwarding, and autoresponders to the filtering features of the matching tier — with one row that works differently, because on Hosted Mail the mailbox is the continuity.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick the best plan?+

First, choose your service. Email Filtering protects the mail server you already run; Hosted Mail is a complete email host with that same security included. Within filtering, there are three tiers: Basics covers solid inbound and outbound security; Enterprise adds phone support, LDAP/AD sync, SSO, email forwarding, and continuity; and Enterprise U.S. adds US-citizen-only access to US datacenters, with ITAR, HIPAA, and NIST 800-171 compliance. Hosted Mail offers the same three tiers, each adding a 50GB IMAP mailbox, webmail, forwarding, and autoresponders. One line runs the other way: Hosted Mail plans do not include Email Continuity, because MailRoute is already the mail server — webmail is standard on every tier and reaches your full mail history rather than a rolling copy of it.

What counts as a billable user, and do you offer volume discounts?+

You’re billed per mailbox, per month. Aliases and distribution lists are free and do not count as users. There are no seat minimums and no long-term contracts. Larger organizations qualify for volume discounts: contact us for a quote. MSPs and resellers get a 25% partner discount with consolidated billing.

What is MailRoute Hosted Mail?+

Complete IMAP email hosting integrated with MailRoute security filtering. 50GB storage, webmail, forwarding, autoresponders. Pricing starts at $5/user/month. Each Hosted Mail plan includes the filtering features of the matching tier, with one exception: Email Continuity is there to cover a mail server we don’t run, and on Hosted Mail we run it. Store and forward still queues your inbound mail for 15 days, the same as every other plan. See our Hosted Mail page for details.

Do I have to buy hardware?+

No. MailRoute is 100% cloud-based. There is no hardware to buy, install, or maintain. You change your MX records to point to MailRoute, and we handle the rest.

How does the free trial work?+

Every plan includes a free 30-day trial. No credit card required. You get full access to all features in your chosen plan. If you decide not to continue, your MX records revert and mail flows directly to your server again.

Do I have to talk to a salesperson?+

No. You can sign up and start your 30-day trial completely online, without ever talking to us. There's no quote form between you and the price, and no demo required. If you'd rather have a human walk you through it, you can talk to a real person before you buy at any plan level. Self-serve or hands-on, it's your call.

Do you offer Reseller accounts?+

Yes. MSPs and resellers get a 25% discount, consolidated billing, API access, and multi-tenant management. See our partner program for details.

Once I sign up will there be any disruption?+

No. Setup is a simple MX record change. Mail continues to flow during the transition. There is no downtime and no disruption to your users. Most customers are fully protected within 5 minutes.

Do you offer global services?+

Yes. MailRoute serves customers worldwide from geo-distributed datacenters. Basics and Enterprise are available globally, covered by our published 99.999% uptime SLA at /legal/sla. Enterprise U.S. is the plan with a data-residency commitment: US datacenters, with US-citizen-only access.

Do you offer US-only services?+

Yes. Our Enterprise U.S. plan uses exclusively US-based datacenters with US-citizen only account access. This plan meets International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), HIPAA (Business Associate Agreement available), and NIST 800-171 requirements.

We needed ITAR-compliant security and found MailRoute. Simple and modern UI. Easier to use than SolarWinds and Proofpoint. Top notch support. Great pricing.
